An Iowa native, Don Hess is a graduate of Iowa State University. Upon graduation he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy where he served for thirty years until retirement having reached the grade of Captain. His shore tours included liaison officer to the U. S. House of Representatives, Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy, and Executive Assistant to the Commander in Chief, U. S. Pacific Fleet. His sea experience included command of a destroyer, subsequent command of a guided missile cruiser as well as Chief of Staff to the Commander Battle Forces, Arabian Gulf during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
After volunteer work with the Aloha United Way, Don was selected to be the Vice President for Operations of the USS Memorial. For eight years, Don served as the Memorial’s Chief Operating Officer. During his tenure, the battleship was moved from Bremerton, Washington to Pearl Harbor where it was renovated and opened as a world class memorial and major visitor attraction.
Don became the Executive Vice President and CFO of Wakelight Technologies in 2008 bringing his extensive organizational, leadership and management background to support Wakelight’s clients and personnel.
